We are passionate about design and possess the technical ability and experience to execute building and planning projects of varying types and scales. We believe that project management, integration of building systems and construction observation are integral to the design process and our teams remain with their projects from the pre-design planning phase through post-occupancy review.

Brett and Michael first worked together while employed with Avinash K Malhotra architects in Manhattan. There the two collaborated on large scale adaptive reuse projects and honed their skills for the planning and design of residential apartment and condominium projects. From Manhattan, Brett moved to Pennsylvania where he was able to develop a vocabulary for modern architecture while working for the firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson on projects ranging from single family residences to corporate offices. With the goal of starting his own practice, Brett’s next move was back to New York’s capital district where he was raised. Here he worked for Einhorn Yaffee Prescott as project architect on large scale university and technology projects. During this time, Michael returned to Connecticut to work for Shope Reno Wharton. While at SRW, Michael worked on residential projects throughout the northeast, Colorado and South Carolina, designed primarily in the American Shingle Style. In 2002 Brett founded Brett W. Balzer Architects. In 2004 Brett moved his practice to Saratoga Springs where early commissions for the Rowhouses at High Rock Springs and 92 East Avenue helped establish the firms design presence in the region. In 2005, Michael joined the practice as partner and Balzer + Tuck Architecture was formed. Together, they have worked to carefully craft a reputation for exceptional design and attentive service.
