Saratoga Strike Zone: Renewing a Family Tradition

Custom Commercial Remodel and Addition

New owners of an aging bowling center near the heart of Saratoga Springs looked for a partner to remodel the facility and attract the next generation of patrons. Balzer and Tuck ushered in a new era for this community amenity through a complete renovation, an addition and the redesign of the building’s 234-foot single-story facade.

“Balzer and Tuck were with us every step of the way for our extensive renovation project, clearly exceeding our expectations with confidence, vision, and expertise. They treated the project like it was their own property.” – Rich Sheldon

Key Challenges and Solutions

  • To improve visual interest, Balzer and Tuck introduced three focal points: the main entrance, a restaurant entrance, and a glazed exterior for the children’s party rooms
  • An exposed steel colonnade and a canopy roof with strategically placed peaks allow visitors to immediately identify points of entry
  • An abundance of daylight was added to the previously dim facility without compromising the aesthetic and need for strict lighting control within the bowling lanes and video arcade.
  • A once flat facade now features a clerestory that can be seen from neighboring roads
  • The addition was positioned along a heavily traveled adjacent roadway to increase frontage and visual impact for passersby
  • The contemporary gray steel canopy, red fiber cement rain screen panel system, and cream colored traditional lap siding work together as a material bridge between the surrounding commercial and residential properties

“I could not be happier with the outcome both physically and financially. I absolutely would not hesitate to recommend them and am grateful for their help in allowing us to realize our potential’”  – Rich Sheldon
